I remember the Colossus the Forbidden Project but will have to watch it again. It's interesting my SDA contact did talk about Quantum physics of all of this saying we can do god-like things via this technology (mind blowing). I get it. My contact did talk about how Covid 19 evolved and had nothing to do with any WAG stories in any media even the far right. In case y'all weren't here, don't remember, or didn't know, that's how the whole Cold War passed! There were more "near misses" than most even suspect, and most of the time it wasn't "the leaders" who averted disaster; it was the "ordinary " citizens on the ground at the heart of whichever incident. The Soviet citizens wanted nuclear war no more than the American citizens did, so they did what was needed to avert the tragedy, before leaders could get involved, or even knew in most instances. But the button never got pushed. I rather doubt the peoples have changed their views all that much, regardless their gov'ts' squabbles.
Why would you leave out the part that Russia has found that the US was partly responsible for what happened at crocus? Was that intentional? Or are you just unaware? Yes, THAT much cooling during a 'Nuclear Winter' would likely occur. As such, virtually NO ONE in the Northern Hemisphere would survive. That includes US, Russia, China and EVERYONE else north of the equator.

However, there IS another way for Russia to effect a completely devastating First Strike on the US - and most of it's European Cronies - which does not entail Nuclear Winter as a result: The Poseidon Torpedo.
This extraordinary weapon is extremely large for anything calling itself a 'torpedo', being roughly about 9' in diameter and almost 60' long. It is unmanned, AUTONOMOUS, and has as a propulsion unit a liquid metal nuclear reactor, thus giving it both unlimited range and 'time on station', but also since it IS unmanned it does not have a pressure hull...giving it extremely deep diving capability. Think here of a vehicle that can easily descend and OPERATE at depths of 6-8 THOUSAND feet, well beyond the envelope of any operational Hunter/Killer torpedo.
But the worst part is that the Poseidon was DESIGNED to carry a warhead in the 'Tsar Bomba' class of thermonuclear weapons - roughly over 100 Megaton yield.
Such a weapon has a very specific use.
Station a dozen such off the coastlines of the US in DEEP water, off the continental shelf, detonate them and the entirety of the coastlines some few hundreds of miles inland would simply be obliterated by Tsunamis likely exceeding 3000' high.
The radioactivity would be very small since nuclear weapons tend to get 'cleaner' as they get larger, however...
There are two 'follow on' effects which would be associated with any such application...terrible ones.
The first is a potential secondary Tsunami larger than the initial one, a 'Backsurge' event likely as devastating as the first if not moreso.
The second effect I mentioned is the injection of - literally - many, many cubic MILES of Seawater into the high Stratosphere. There, that vaporized Seawater would - in 100+ degree below zero temps - immediately begin nucleating into hailstones the size of which have never before been recorded in Human history. Think here of such weighing 80-100 lbs, EACH.
A quick 'back of the envelope' calculation yields a figure of 14 BILLION such for each cubic mile of seawater lifted to height.
Recall that the Bible refers to "Hailstones the weight of a Talent..." and it starts to look as if Prophecy is just that, PROPHECY.
Given the West to East flow of the Jetstream in the northern hemisphere anything generated on the West coast would be carried INLAND across the continental United States...to what extent I cannot say. Certainly, ANYTHING in the path of such a downpouring would simply be obliterated in toto; every building, every field, every structure of ANY sort whatsoever.
Any full scale Nuclear Broadside between major powers is simply a Death Sentence for every man, woman and child in the Northern Hemisphere...something that every major power KNOWS. Ergo, that is just 'Sabre Rattling' given the absolute nature of the RESULT.

With all the ocean tested nuclear explosions we have done along with Russia there is zero evidence of any kind of massive tsunami effect from an underwater nuclear blast. Mostly due due to the water in and around the blast is vaporized and creates a vacuum where the surrounding water implodes into the water vapor hole caused by the blast. My favorite post apocalyptic movie is "A Boy and His Dog" from 1975. Ironically, it's set in 2024. At the time I first watched it, that seemed impossibly far away. If there is a nuclear holocaust, I hope I die quickly. The idea of foraging for food, avoiding roving bands of thieves and having literally no creature comforts is just not all that appealing at my age.
The Russians have also invested in a lot of underground fallout shelters. We used to have them in the 50's and 60's, but apparently became complacent about it. If I thought Biden had the nuclear football, I would be builbyding one in my backyard.
