This "catch and release" program from local DA's must stop - now if not sooner. We have laws and punishments for a reason. I think it was back in the 80s or maybe 90s some enterprising young L.A. people created a very lucrative tourist attraction. It was the "gang tours" and then the "poverty tours". People from all around the country, including nicer/wealthier areas of California, came to sit on a bus and be driven through the dark parts of town so they could feel glad that they're not them.
Some choose to make lemonade out lemons, while others just cry about how hard it is to make the lemonade.
It is looking more and more like we the people need to reinvigorate those first 13 words of the 2nd amendment. I wonder what the criminals involved in these incidents will do then? And of course no one mentions what race they are anymore because that would be racist. SOMETHING is wrong.
Pretty soon the American people will rise up against this crime wave, but the only problem is that human society trends are like pendulums that never stop at a balanced state but swing to the other extreme. A good TV series to watch in that regard is the Spanish series on Netflix called the Barrier, well done series, worth watching.

My ‘town’ (rather township) doesn’t have a local police department, but we also don’t have the population (tax revenue) to support it. We live in a rural area. Why pay the expense if you don’t have the crime to justify the expense? The sheriff’s department is great and regularly patrols the area, so it’s not like we don’t have a police presence at all.
We moved here about seven years ago, so for us it was a pre Covid thing not to have a local police department.
The town our township borders has a permanent local police presence and that helps deter problems in our area as well. In fact, they have a huge presence at the local schools.
My bet is that We will get a permanent police force in the next 10-20 years because the population is starting to boom and with more population comes more problems. It’s really not about hating the police b/c we live in a very Trumpy, ‘back the blue’ area, one of the last in our county. I suspect a lot of these areas are just trying to cut their budgets in order to divert money to something that would give more immediate value and benefit to locals. How do you help the most people with limited tax dollars?
My area is super cheap when it comes to spending and the older residents prefer keeping taxes low rather than upgrading facilities. Any Ron Paul supporter or Libertarian would be proud at the diligence they take at trying to keep living costs low. It was a pure miracle that our residents finally had enough voters come out and vote to build a new library b/c the current one looks like it would qualify to be in an episode of the show Hoarders. It’s gross and I can’t use it. I’m a reader, so this has been a tragic and ironic turn of events for me. I’m in Michigan, for the curious.
If "they" can't figure out a way to support their pet projects WITHOUT "property taxes" I.E. RENT on your home, then you don't need the project. NO ONE should have to pay to live in their own home. PERIOD. It is nothing but theft for psychopathic control freak parasites.
