Here in the US we are so detached from the reality that is the rest of the world. We live near a large university that attracts students from 120 different countries. I believe that the view of our country is completely surreal. We live such insulated lives here compared to the rest of the eight billion people around the world. We have luxuries that other countries can only dream about. Even if these luxuries are slipping away from most people, we at least have most basic needs met.

Our supply chains may be breaking but we still have food in comparative abundance. We may have to tighten our belts and live more frugally but so what. I grew up up in the fifties and we didn't have much. We never ate out. And we didn't extra anything. Only when some wore out or we out grew something did we get new.

Even for us here, things are deteriorating quickly. When people have to decide whether to pay their utility bill(s) or buy groceries, we have really reached a tipping point. And even so, some of those purchases are paid for with credit cards.

Like a silent plague working itself thru a population, it's happening. We are soft and spoiled here. It's gonna get uglier soon.

We in the UK do not have your vast resources; though your main crops will be in short supply due to the droughts and the fertiliser cost. Many farmers have not felt it worth planting this year. I am 79 so was also brought up in the post-war era, with shortages and some rationing still. Times were very different, the class system was alive and well even though it had received a knock after WW1. "Make do and mend" was the norm. I still cannot accommodate the thought of buying clothes then discarding them in a months time.

Our current Labour government seems to be going out of its way to stop farming altogether, also to make it too costly to employ staff in the retail industries, many chains of shops have closed over the last two years. They also discourage personal saving with ISA caps being reduced for younger savers. Labour's dream is to have half the country working for the government and the other half controlled by it.

We shall see in December how the younger Americans take the Draft, many seem to have grown up with no rules. Corruption is now apparently ok at all levels.

Sorry for typos earlier, my dyslexic fingers worse than usual.

Michael, have you lost your memory of the decades of Israeli invasions of Lebanon, and the , destruction and murder of the Lebanese? Israel has destroyed whole towns and murdered thousands of civilians, as they did in Gaza, as part of the current naked aggression to create a "Greater Israel"...

Wow, I did a search and you are right !

Do you get any news besides CNN and CBS?

There can be no peace until Iran's proxies are destroyed and the Muslim leaders in Iran forced into exile. The flunkies, Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis, answer to Iran and to the murderous Muslim cult called Islam. Their only purpose in life is jihad-- eliminate the Jews, then the Christians and other faiths-- to establish the worldwide caliphate. They are decimating what is left of our European allies. They are working on their footholds in America.

Zionists conquered Palestine and forced the people out of their houses. It should not have happened.

Moe Wigsoe's avatar

Fail. The Balfour Declaration (1918) created Israel and all the surrounding "nations" out of the ashes of the Ottoman Empire. The "Palestinian" "refugees" voluntarily left their homes at the request of Egypt and others so those countries could murder the Jewish settlers. 1948. Be over in a week, they said. You can come back and take the land of the Jews, they said. But when Truman recognized the new state of Israel and they WON, the Arabs who had known about and cooperated with the intended slaughter of the Jews were not allowed to return for more business as usual. Duh.

I’m curious to know where you go to get your information, for example regarding The Balfour Declaration. I ask because the statement you make in the first sentence of your post is UTTER NONSENSE. Not only that, it’s misleading.

The Balfour Declaration was Britain 's World War I commitment to support the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine, AND THAT’S IT!

Incorporated into Britain's Mandate over Palestine at the war's end by the newly created League of Nations (and thereby guaranteed under, and sanctioned by international law), the declaration was the guiding principle of British rule for thirty years. The ultimate realization of the Balfour commitment in 1948 with the creation of Israel changed the face and history of the Middle East .The League of Nations mandate system was established under Article 22 of the Covenant of the League of Nations. The specific territories of the former Ottoman Empire were formally created and assigned to British and French administration through separate legal documents and international agreements.

If you want to read about how the precursor territories to Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria just Google Article 22 of the Covenant of the League of Nations.

And all it took was 5 minutes on Google. I have to wonder how much you care about or respect the Truth.

Moe Wigsoe's avatar

Well, Edward, you got things right without touching the substance. Bravo!

Edward's avatar

It's impossible to have an opinion about what happened after 1948 and why unless you first have the pre-1948 facts established correctly.

My opinion about the post-1948 events are, simply;

Rather than being the good custodians of the UN-designated Palestinian Territories as designated the 1947 Partition Resolution, the almost immediately used these territories to launch the first of three wars of aggression against Israel. They lost each of these wars. After that began the proxy wars and terrorist operations against Israel sponsored by her neighbors in the Arab/Islamic world.

Young people today seem to be completely unaware of the history of how Israel came to be and how a Palestinuan homeland was created, only to be destroyed by the same countries that today oppose Israel’s existence.

Edward's avatar

Please, tell us you’re not really so clueless that you’re unable to use Google to ask, “How did the State of Israel come to be?”

The UN created Israel and Palestine by partitioning The British Mandate For Palestine, which had give Britain civil, defense and police control over the former Ottoman Territory of Palestine.

Why?

The truth is that Lebanon has been an occupied country since the PLO destabilized it. Then Syria occupied Lebanon. Now Hezbollah is the current occupier of Lebanon. Iran supports its terrorist proxies: Hezbollah, Hamas, and Houthis, so there will be no peace. The bottom-line is that no rational government should ever negotiate with terrorist entities.

Moe Wigsoe's avatar

"Lebanon" had its high water mark as part of the Ottoman Empire. It is a sand flea, overwashed by the surf of history. And speaking of "negotiate with terrorist entities," Trump has no business even talking with the Islamic rulers of Iran. His ego makes him believe he can change WHO THEY ARE. He cannot. Stop paying attention to what other Islamic leaders say. Do what is RIGHT. Islam will go into remission, as it has in the face of a strong response throughout history.

Iran may not have nuclear weapons, but it has nevet for a second cosidered giving up its ambitions. Complete military victory over Iran will have to be achieved. So, do it.

Hezbollah needs to defend Lebanon so it doesn't get entirely destroyed. That is just reality.

It’s Israel. It’s “the Muslims”. Actually it’s the lineage of Ishmael vs the lineage of the Pharisees. Both are wrong. Neither will stop. Eventually, Jesus Christ will make them stop, one way or another. He’ll make us all stop, and bend the knee.

The longer the cease-fire the more time Iran has to rearm, unless we're willing to sink Russian cargo ships on the Caspian Sea or shoot down China's air cargo planes flying in from the east..

It seems to me that Israel, alone, is fighting on the ground to defend itself, while Trump is building a massive , million dollar stage on the White House lawn for his entertainment

Just Comment's avatar

At least Trump is constructive and not destructive.

Also, building means Trump has confidence that America has good days ahead of us.

Hopefully, America is lucky enough to skip the "3rd Generation Curse" and/or "Nations only last 250 years Limit".
