Russia will not agree to any peace where they don't have Crimea, their only warm weather port. They also don't want Ukraine or NATO on their border and are unlikely to give Ukraine back all of the culturally Russian provinces that they have pretty much conquered. Ukraine doesn't want to give anything up. Nato doesn't want Russian aggression rewarded. I think the best compromise is to create a new country, not controlled by Russia or Ukraine, made up of Donetsk and the other border provinces that Russia basically conquered. That way neither country "wins". Crimea will stay in Russian hands. Nato, the US, Russia, and Ukraine would all agree to not arm the new nation.
