Michael, there are about 1.5 billion people in each China and India. There are minimally 1.3 billion or more Africans. There are a billion middle easterners in the Middle East and across the world. Millions upon millions of central and South American jacobin-mingled Indians have poured over our southern borders, none of whom appear to be starving to death with millions upon millions more remaining in their respective countries. About 10 years ago, I read a book written about 1922 concerning various population growths outside America and one of details that caught my attention was at that time the black population of Africa was nearing 400,000. Other countries in the book very similar to the experience of African population growth. Assuming that text to be accurate, which I have no reason to doubt, that means in 100 years the African population has grown by nearly one billion. How can this be if people are starving all across the world? Indonesia has no shortage of people and Japan has begun engineering domiciles that are constructed hovering over the ocean because of population growth. I know there are those that go hungry and starve and it is horrific no matter who it is but I need to know how the populations have swelled to these staggering numbers over the past 100 years if starvation was so prevalent? America’s “original” population has not grown at all. It’s been crushed just like the original populations of Europe who did not leave Europe when the others left for America. That book was spot on about the threat looming around us, which sadly cannot be spoken in today’s ignorant world.
It's actually a pretty easy answer, although I might not be able to 'splain it correctly. In America, we throw away 40% of our food, and that is a pretty constant number decade after decade.
In extremely poor countries like Africa 100 years go, you'll have something like 9 people existing at the starvation level for every "x" amount of food. So if you get some generous Christian nation like America with a handful of Religious Organizations competing to delivery food into these nations, you'll get a direct increase in the number of starving people. And that ratio stays constant, decade after decade. Bring in 100 times the food, and you'll get an explosive population growth up to about 100 times as many people starving.
I don't have the exact numbers any more, but Compassion International did a multi-year study on this in the 70's & 80's, which is one of the places I found the information when I was sponsoring children back then. (I lived in Asia). Compassion fixed the problem by limiting sponsorship (food, clothing, school, etc) to 1 child per family, and created a (wonderful) long term solution where each generation of kids grew up and came back to sustain the program in their respective country after they prospered in places like America and Europe.

Are you able to really visualize what it takes to sustain the “needs” of a population that grows at that rate? We’re not just talking food but clean water as well and some level of medical and acute care. Malnourished and starving people cannot muster the hormones to create such populations. Think about what it would take to house, feed, clothe, educate, and what kind of job opportunities would have to be available to produce and consume at those levels.
