If you're retired or elderly on a fixed income, you're pretty much screwed. Unless you're VERY proficient at weaponry, you're pretty much screwed. If you have health issues, you're pretty much screwed. Go ahead and stock up, but if you're vulnerable, like the most of us, your stuff will get stolen, your neighbors will rat you out, your stuff will run out before the emergency ends. It all sounds so logical and reasonable. I hope I go in the first wave.
OPSEC OPSEC OPSEC! Never tell locals that you're prepping. Think of it this way -- if you had a jeweler's bag full of diamonds, worth millions, would you blab it to everyone? I hope not. Because your food and other preps are worth more than diamonds in an emergency.
Find like-minded folk to share responsibilities with. Some so-called preppers ONLY have guns and zero food. Some preppers only have seeds and land to grow stuff, but not nearly enough people guarding against hungry hordes. Some just try to get their spouse/family to learn medical stuff to be ready for a time when there's no doctors.
The best plan, if you can work it, is to have a crew with different strengths and skills so you can benefit from having numbers where nobody's a freeloader. I live just outside of Rifle, CO but I long to get back to city life. When I do, I'll need to get in good with some r/preppers I talk with on reddit all the time. Lone Wolf prepping is a pipe dream for most. We need security in numbers.

I am eating my brown rice that I packed in 2011. Yes it can be done and I did it. Also have barley and wheat berries. A lot. Like a couple tons all together. The rice seems like it was packed yesterday. Weevils? Yes in the rice I took a whole summer to finish the packing job. They don’t hurt you. Rinse the rice and they float to top. As for how I packed: look up ETprepper on YouTube and you should find my videos on packing long term food.
But a new 4 gallon bucket, mylar bag, 300cc O2 absorber and vacuum sealed. That’s how it’s done. I have a couple videos how I did it. Good luck on your preps!
OK, you need to stop storing your rice outdoors in Minnesota winters and Arizona summers. Always store items in cool, dark, dry places for longest freshness.
I'll be honest. I was hoping my dog and cat and back yard cluckers were going to eat buckets and buckets of those free protein cicadas we were promised.
Alas they just eat the random grasshopper they catch.

~Use the liquids from your canned fruits/vegs to cook pasta or oatmeal, etc., never waste the liquid
~ReadyWise is possibly the WORST tasting prepper food. Their taste & consistency are awful
~Get extra months of any prescriptions you're on
~Buy various spectrum antibiotics from Thomas Labs (Google 'fishbiotics')
~Sign up for email discount grocery alerts. Money Saving Mom is great for HUGE discount notices on groceries (I buy 24 packs of canned chicken or tuna for $9.99 on Amazon Sub & Save, then cancel before price goes back to $30 the next month)
~Pasta & dehydrated foods/crumbles are great and can be squeezed into any cupboard slot
~Buy/store foods in dark containers/places if you intend to keep them long-term
~Whatever foods you buy for your pets, buy extra every time and store it very well, because your pets won't buckle down and eat stale or crappy foods like we will if it comes down to it
~Grow as many fruits, tubers, and vegetables as your land permits, even just your windowsills
~Look into dry pool chemicals for your chlorine needs, because liquid bleach expires in 6 months
~Be resourceful & imaginative with your storage locations around the house. No house I've ever lived in had enough cabinet or cupboard room to stockpile doomsday levels of food
I know everyone here probably preaches all of this stuff already, but if even one person learns one helpful thing, I'll be glad.
Thank you for this list. We're trying to be able to go a couple of years and have been prepping for quite a while. I'm going to check against your recommendations. You don't realize what you forgot until you need it.
Look, I understand the idea of prepping. I have done this myself. And yes if properly stored rice can last 20 years if properly sealed. The key is low humidity, a very dry place.
Obviously, not everyone can do the same things. But we should ,as good stewards of out lives do what we can to prepare. Yes the key is water, I am blessed with my own cistern fed by ground water for almost unlimited supply. This should not be for survival only, this should be for sharing and sharing the gospel not shooting everyone that comes near who is in need.
I don't think as Americans we can fully comprehend, understand or know how difficult things will be when all of this chaos comes down, we will be pushed to our limits, beyond what we think we can bear. Like Job, the limits of our Faith will be tested, but I also believe it will be worse than Job.
Out of this initial chaos, the Anti-Christ will come out of this mess, overthrow the ones behind this evil NWO and as Jesus said in Matt. 24 and Rev. 10 offer something to the world that will eliminate our suffering (appear to rescue the world from what the NWO wanted to do). A great list for the multiple millions living in apartments, rented homes and otherwise non-standard homes they own. Not. This list is not very practical for anyone over 70 with some limitations such as health and income.
As with all prepper lists, they cater to a select group for the most part. If you are over 60, they want you dead anyway. If you are under 35, they want you never to make babies. Well, that leaves out over half the population.
Like I want to survive WW3 which will be nuclear and be around to make another post apocalyptic zombie movie/Mad Max/Survival thing that will be number 1,857 on the list.

You can store rice in Mylar bags, mason jars, or food grade buckets. Keep in a cool dark location away from direct sunlight.

A great list for the multiple millions living in apartments, rented homes and otherwise non-standard homes they own. Not. This list is not very practical for anyone over 70 with some limitations such as health and income.
As with all prepper lists, they cater to a select group for the most part. If you are over 60, they want you dead anyway. If you are under 35, they want you never to make babies. Well, that leaves out over half the population.
Like I want to survive WW3 which will be nuclear and be around to make another post apocalyptic zombie movie/Mad Max/Survival thing that will be number 1,857 on the list.
