This is causing Chinese factories to literally abandon goods in transit, forfeiting entire container loads of goods destined for the U.S.

The cargo shipping companies will be forced to redirect those loads to Mexico or South America, flooding those countries with low-cost Chinese goods while America's shelves run empty and shocking levels of supply chain scarcity kick in.

You are about to find yourself living in a third world country. Right here in America.

"Yes, we can build new factories, but that will take years.

It also comes with a lot of risk.

Less than four years from now, a new administration could come in and totally reverse current trade policy"

So truthfully and eloquently stated, Mr. Snyder. .

This is all getting so interesting. Chaos reigns in every corner of the globe.

What will we do when shelves are emptied of cheap Chinese crap? Gee, I don't know…consume less, do without, and live within our means maybe.

The runaway train is barreling down the track, and no one can stop it. Brace yourself for impact.

Maranatha!

There is no doubt in my mind that some things I consume come from China that are necessary, there is also no doubt in my mind I will find a way to build what I need or an American will step in to fill that need. China's reach is extensive, even products that claim to be American made use Chinese parts or consumables. Those things I consider necessary revolve for the most part around my livestock and greenhouse. As long as I can feed my animals and run my greenhouse and meet our basic nutritional requirements , I'm good to go, we will survive without buying any Chinese junk. For once , the current generations of America are really going to have to show a backbone, if we lack the courage and strength to fight this non violent war with China then the nation is toast anyways.

It’s true, MR, the U.S. is so dependent on Chinese goods touching every single industry. We produce nothing here anymore. It is sad. I do hope you can adequately maintain what you need to sustain your livestock and greenhouse. You sound like a guy that will adapt no matter what comes. I guess we will all have to become a MacGyver. 😀

Buy locally sourced whole foods at a local farmers market. On average, it costs more per weight you buy but the food is full of nutrition and has less empty calories. Lose weight without getting sick. Grow your own food as well. Live more locally. Organize your house to live more energy efficiently. Recycle and repair old things which do not yet need to go to landfill. Swap and share with neighbors whatever you can. You can have a great life without all those cheap (soon to be expensive) Chinese imports!!

I think you need to understand that Chinese products are no longer all 'cheap crap', but high end products and sophisticated electronics and advanced machinery too. And all that includes parts for you car, or tractor, or your power tools, or your aircon or heating system or water pumps or irrigation systems or even hand tools.

Not many people can or want to 'go third world' of self sufficiency on apiece of land somewhere, and most people live in cities, where transport (including food), water supplies, energy supplies, waste removal, etc. all rely on machinery and technology and much of that came from China. Including the parts to repair it!

The impacts will be unavoidable for almost everyone.

Why is buying things from places that are good at making them a “war?” How is the seller of reasonably priced goods somehow oppressing the buyer? I’m OK at building things or fixing cars. But my carpenter and auto mechanic are better. Is buying their services somehow oppressing me? Am I somehow dependent on them because I value their expertise? America had the most successful and dominant economy in the world because it focused on high value enterprises and services. Not manufacturing shoes or toilet seats.

And it’s not imports from China or elsewhere that created the total US collective dept of $36 trillion (federal + state + municipal + corporate + household). That’s a result of its own spending decisions!

Prices on eBay and Craigslist are insane right now. Mr Trump has ruined so many people and families so far, that they need to sell precious items for pennies on the dollar just to afford food for their children.

Then we have his demonic, uncaring supporters who shrug at the problems their Golden Calf created, essentially paraphrasing with, “you will own less and you will be happy!”

Wow, what a weird take on reality. Anybody who has stuff to sell is not having trouble affording food. Seriously. Maybe they need to cancel cable, stop getting fancy nails and pricey tattoos first, eh? Or turn in the leased car and buy a beater?

Anyone with a backyard can grow enough food to eat well -- and food pantries are stocked to the gills. I know one old couple, financially very secure, who just got a delivery of free food -- including 4 DOZEN eggs, a 10-pound frozen roaster chicken, and 20 pounds of fresh foods. Nobody needs to go hungry in the US, unless they are too lazy or dim to do anything about it.

Ummm, now THAT was certainly a weird take on reality! Or more accurately, a great take on pure fiction.

Just because people commit the apparently egregious sin of owning stuff does NOT mean they’re not suffering from the evil, anti-American actions that the Antichrist is executive-ordering from the White House every day. Good people are losing their jobs daily. Shutting down businesses they spent their lives building. Losing their homes & their cars to repossession. Those retarded boomers need to cut down on tattoos and fancy nails though, what a vicious and moronic fantasy Mr Trump just forced you to spout.

Oh! And you personally know someone well off who just had 48 eggs delivered along with the magical roasted chicken who no doubt laid them! When Mr Trump’s own executive orders have been decimating food pantries across America? But but but… don’t they grow enough food in their mansion’s back yard, like any decent human being who totally exists in your head?

Look, a decent leader tries to make their country and citizens prosper. We have one who is blatantly doing the opposite. And in my opinion what’s even worse is that he Stockholm-syndromes formerly honest Christians into pulling pure, unadulterated lies and hatred out of their asses to still support him when they should remember that he is calculating each and every step he makes as the opposite of how Jesus our Christ would do things.

Please rethink your hatred and ignorance.

I'm not uneducated or naive. I think it's going to be difficult for a while. However, our country has a chance to reset our economy, root out the fraud and abuse, and get rid of the central banks and the fed. We need to reshore essential manufacturing and deal only with countries that work on a level playing field with us.

Whatever happened to the "Art of the Deal"? Or was the intention (backed by confirmational actions taken to date) to wreck the U.S. economy and hasten the implosion of the international economic apparatus sufficiently to warrant the rushed transition to crypto/stablecoin/centralized, digitized monetary standards to "equalize" and mysteriously disappear the U.S.'s enormous unjustifiable debt -- an excuse to "reset" and to introduce mandatory participation and biometric entry into the world that we now traverse only over surveilled and data mined, manipulated and constantly bombarded with subtle cues and "push" or "nudge" campaigns to keep the masses all distracted and upset at each other's seemingly tedious and unimportant proclivities while the "heroes" make off with the rest of the loot and cement the control grid into place as the appropriate and reasonable replacement for the tyranny of the central bank system that has bilked millions out of trillions? As history repeats itself and we arm ourselves to involve the world in yet another series of crises to gin up the sleight of hand behind all of the wealth transfers and centralization of power, perhaps we should stop and contemplate what was as it is systematically destroyed before our eyes -- and the chess pieces moved again once more to accomplish the coup always intended but not yet realized.

Well said. All the leaders of pretty much every country belong to the same big club, as George Carlin put it. The US, China, Russia, UK, etc, etc, are all in on this happening. It’s all orchestrated and scripted and has been in the plans for decades. It’s the slow demolition of the American empire now that the dollar has outlived it’s usefulness and put the entire planet into debt. The globalist banksters and giant corporations are about to pull the rug out from under the US Corporation’s economy. Trump has been picked to make it happen while keeping the masses divided and distracted.

But in the end, God is still in control and will allow things to play out according to His purposes.

Completely concur. That we would be witness to this in our lifetimes is both frightening and assuring, as it is a sobering reminder that this world is not our home and that we're en route to the eternal kingdom of light, love, grace, mercy, compassion & glory. It's tough watching loved ones and friends/colleagues blindly thrashing in the throes of the false binary/Hegelian dialectic, etc., believing the lamestream news, investing all of their emotions, wealth & hope on temporal things and drawing lines that they have no idea they have been programmed and mind controlled to make and to enforce and to stand or die on (without Jesus, the latter). That the Spirit will open eyes, hearts & minds to the cruel ruse of the evil one and the the glorious freedom in Christ Jesus.

There is a high probability that the Chinese economy, which is in poor shape now, will collapse. We will have defeated our most dangerous enemy without a shot being fired. And, we will be rid of poorly made, dangerous and unhealthy products from China. Sounds like win-win for the USA.

The only thing one needs to fear is fear, fear is a killer, it's a tool of satan. Satan seems to be wielding that weapon well. Should we be prepared? Yes and we should be prepared to fight this war, if we aren't , if the nation cannot find the courage and the innovation to get thru this , well, I'm guessing God has determined we are done as a nation. Michael , there was a time that you would write from the perspective of God, you don't seem to be doing that anymore.

Normally I like your writing, sir. It's well put together and I can tell you've given it a lot of thought before committing it to print. I do have to say though that, when it comes to this particular issue, your statements are half truths. Not that you're lying or trying to mislead, only that only one half of the potential story is being told.

We may see bare shelves on some items for a time, but in that same length of time the Chinese manufacturing base is going to be utterly devastated. People view China as this monolithic entity that cannot be stopped. We'd have to really want it to get any further from the truth than that. Without those exports going out to us their factories will start closing in droves. Hundreds of thousands of people in China are about to find themselves without a job, many of them being breeding, military age men that already don't have families thanks to the One Child policy.

There's gonna be a critical tipping point soon that will probably lead to a lot of blood on the floor in China. To be clear…… no communist government has survived the death of the generation that created it. Not one. The USSR got close, but once the grandchildren of those revolutionaries assumed power, it was over. The same will be the case for China. They will only be able to maintain coherence through force if their economy collapses, and it is about to which honestly is something the rest of the world needs. They've been manipulating their markets and currency for decades, stealing untold amounts of intellectual property to flood markets with cheaply built garbage that undermines the original inventors and nations that would have benefitted from their citizens work.

This is our way out of Thucydides’ Trap (not sure on the spelling. It's close). China would love nothing more than for us to be a strictly consumer nation with no real hopes of taking care of ourselves without their trash products. That cannot be allowed. Republican and Democrat administrations for the past forty years have sold us up river by exporting all of our manufacturing jobs overseas. This is the only way out. Short term pain for long term results. As for a new administration coming in and undoing everything that happens….. that's largely gonna depend on the outcome. By the end of these next 3.5 years I don't think it likely that there's gonna be much sentiment for the status quo of the past few decades. You're not gonna be able to even run a campaign, much less win one, if you're not talking about keeping America independent of foreign influence.

It will be okay. It will be good for the future generations of Americans. A lot of it was crap anyway. The drive to "scale" goods was what originally led to manufacturing in China because it was cheaper. It was cheaper because of no or low wages, zero concern for environmental impact, and CCP control of every aspect, whether directly or indirectly. It is the height of hypocrisy to virtue signal about labor rights, environmental concerns, frre speech, due process and "our democracy" if you use Apple products, wear Nike or apparently a lot of other brands, or have solar panels. We need to revamp production of necessities - medicine, medical devices and equipment; all of the things from chips to rare earth minerals that are required for computing whether that be AI, planes, trains, ships, and automobiles, or satellites; and food. If this tariff thing gets really nasty we need to nationalize our agricultural interests held held by China, including farms, ranches, slaughterhouse, and related industries.
