Do some research on China... they are not in a good place at all. They were, in fact, desperate. Asiatimes, AP... just search for it. They cannot easily switch to selling to other countries. Only Americans are so junk/toy centered that we can support China's economy. Mexico, Chile, Africa... they couldn't suddenly take all the Dollar Stores toys, decorations etc.

That they talked about fentanyl is a good thing. If China will keep her word this time, this may work out.

While Trump has been flip-flopping wildly, causing angst & consternation with trading partners everywhere, China has, as always, been quietly playing the long game.

It hasn't been sitting by, waiting for Trumps' next flip, or flop. Rather China has actively been approaching many other countries and successfully doing trade deals, with the long term aim of replacing the US as a trading partner as much as possible; the US has become unreliable & can't be trusted.

So the boot (Trump's desire to reduce reliance on Chinese products) may soon be on the other foot as China - and others - seek alternative trading partners & basically take their business elsewhere.

'You want more widgets? So sorry, nothing in stock right now'.

Maybe in a year or two, Trump can curry favor with Xi by offering something big & shiny...I dunno...Air Force 1?
