Yet Iran controls Hezbollah, and Hezbollah has expanded its offensive operations in Israel. Israel has repeatedly shown it wants a ceasefire, and wouldn’t have attacked Hezbollah if they weren’t attacked first. Also, Iran and Hezbollah have pledged to exterminate Israel, and that, in itself, is a violation of the UN Convention on Genocide. Iran is violating the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Even though Iran hasn't signed any treaties about the Sea, nuclear weapons, or genocide, that doesn't give it the right to violate these laws outside of its own borders, and the violation of these laws and conventions makes it imperative for other countries to enforce them if they want them to be taken seriously. Foreign rape murderers can't get off by saying they never agreed to laws prohibiting rape and murder.
Why are Iran's claims given moral equivalence, or even priority, in discussions of the impasse in the Straits of Hormuz? The US is standing up for International Law. Israel is standing up for national survival against a foe that has vowed to commit genocide and destroy it. According to the hordes of mainstream left-liberal undead, now occupying spaces formerly filled with journalists, Israel has no right to be successful against genocidal attackers. They will only be tolerated once they are dead. Similarly, the people of Lebanon have no right to throw out Iranian Hezbollah operatives, and the people of Gaza have no right to a life of their own outside of serving Hamas. Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran use ceasefires to rearm and attack those they want to destroy.
So, in fact, the larger international community in Europe, India, South East Asia, Africa, and Latin America should be demanding that Iran open the Straits and not possess nuclear weapons. That isn't happening. On the contrary, Europe is buying oil from Iran via the Caspian Sea and opposing US efforts to stop Iran. India is buying all that Iran will sell.
If the rest of the world is willing to stand by and let Iran lead it down a path to nuclear war, economic rent blackmail, and shortages of food and energy, then they deserve what they are going to get. Blaming Trump and Israel will make them feel better, much like a narcotic fix, but once it wears off, the pain will set in. Those responsible will seek a soft landing hangout. Some will find it, but the legacy of poverty, misery, and death will pervade the planet for a long time, unless, that is, the prophesies envisioned in Revelation come to pass.
