The closure of the Hormuz strait, restricting the supply of crude oil was a WAKEUP call to the World, as that raw crude oil gets manufactured by refineries into usable products and transportation fuels to support the 8 billion on this planet.

Planes, ships, trucks, and cars run on transportation fuels manufactured FROM crude oil by multi-billion-dollar refineries.

The world has become dependent on the products and transportation fuels MADE FROM oil, the same products and transportation fuels that unreliable green electricity from Wind and Solar CANNOT make!

Energy "REALITY" is that wind turbines and solar panels ONLY generate electricity but CANNOT make any products or transportation fuels for life as we know it.

One thing that has not been addressed by many sources is the permanent or at least semi-permanent impact on an oil well that has been shut down. I don’t understand all of the physics, but people smarter than me on the subject are saying that shutting down a group of wells (which you have to do if you can’t pump oil into tankers) disrupts the internal pressure of the oil field and, if left idle long enough, could take years to get the field back in full operation.

My family gets a little monthly check from a well in Michigan. For some reason most of the wells in Michigan are not being pumped since October and we seem to not be able to get a straight answer from the people responsible for the financial end of it or the company responsible for pumping the oil.

Seems bass ackwards to me...you would think to help our country that "ALL" the oil wells in America would be pumping right now.

Any one's thoughts on this? Or am I looking at this wrong?

Unlikely that "we are farther away from an agreement between the U.S. and Iran than ever... and also unlikely that "more fighting breaks out." The 3 (not 10) points Iran delivered to Pakistan most recently indicate that the Iranians DON"T feel like they have won the war and have all the leverage, suggesting Trump's "we hold all the cards" statement is resonating in Tehran.

The fact that Iran's oil supplies will become unusable, perhaps for a long, long time if they are not freed up in a matter of days, argues FOR US patience and AGAINST further military action, i.e., thinking "more fighting [will] break out."

I dont see how Persia’s oil is anybody elses business?

You’ve got oil in texas.

What does america need any oil for anyway?

China is the only one doing any manufacturing.

Just to drive around for no good reason?

So we watch and we read and we discuss what's happening. Is there much we can do to change things? I dont think so

Background: Before I retired, I used an advisory service to help me actively invest my 401k and IRA accounts. My [edit] buys and sells were based on the impacts of the big institutional investors, but mine being so small had no impact on the market themselves. I was like a small motor boat maneuvering around ocean liners.

I see a parallel here. There are a great many things that I have zero influence on. I get that. The best I can do is (a) determine where I can reduce unnecessary expenses, (b) improve my family’s stocks of staple goods while prices are at today’s levels, and (c) consider a few old fashioned methods of dealing with everyday needs.

Nice parrallel, and list of what we CAN do! Being proactive. Yet again, big changes are coming that I don't think we can stop. Thank you

When I was in the Navy, if I approached my CO with a problem, I was also expected to have at least one solution in mind. I try to keep that in mind today.

Good training that you've held onto. Thank you for your service!🙂

This is a bad time to try to buy a solar panel though.

Husband was trying to buy a substantial solar panel, which costs thousands of dollars. We not only got the "run around", and also, from the manufacturer, shipping, the dock, ..... the panel got "lost".

Then they try to charge us more money, felt like we were getting "blackmailed".

We finally said, "Forget It, we want our money back." Then, they tried to keep our money fraudulently......

Thank God, American Express knew how to deal with these people and got our money back for us.

There's a lot of scams on internet including Amazon.

I ordered a large 6 ft tool chest for $1150. Within 2 days...Affirm contacted me and canceled the money because they felt the Seller was a fraud.

They were correct.

I played along with the seller...asking for delivery date every few days, etc. I followed the tracking map and when it stated the tool chest was around 100 miles from our home...it came from China...Haha....they contacted me and stated they were sorry for it taking so long and wanted to know if I wanted to cancel the order. I followed this for 5 weeks to see what they would do. I said No that I was excited that it was almost here.

I never heard from them again.

Weirdos.

So frustrating.

So you were able to get your money back, correct ?

Add one more nail to the hydrocarbon fuel reset temporary coffin, which the US is somewhat buffered from via fracking US hydrocarbons and Venezuelan heavy oil. The entire seismic exploration industry necessary for both exploration and ongoing extraction was bankrupted snd retired by GoreBull Swarmy pseudo science. One can’t flip s switch and turn back on one of the more complex industries in the world which invented the IC at Texas Instruments to power it’s equipment. And was second in compute power only to Governments. All the knowledge base had moved on or retired. And the equipment manufactures no longer exist.

The entire oil and gas industry was basically next, just producing what is left into decline. The explorationist knowledge base that takes decades to train up sunsetting under Obama and Joe Otto Penn.

The industry is heavy upfront CAPEX intensive, with a 10 year plus horizon to ROI. Deep water large oil reservoirs even with advanced marine seismic were only 10% successful. With wells costing $150-500 million per well. Who would take those risks with the prospect of the insane GoreBull Warmists running the asylum again?

We are now gambling heavily on lunar mining of Helium3 for Plasma Fusion to power our future, with an entire generation of mentally challenged Greatas trying to save the planet from plant food CO2 burning us all up. With their religion of pseudo science Scientism.

Our democracy has become an oligarchy, a government in which a small group exercises control, especially for corrupt and selfish purposes. Now is the time for us, the vast majority of Americans, to unite to defend and restore our democratic republic in a nonviolent manner. Now is the time to initiate a grassroots campaign to pursue the following. Several Democrats and progressive organizations have compiled separate tax reform proposals. I envision having these proposals consolidated into one bill that will benefit the vast majority of Americans. Such a bill will provide a much-needed alternative tax plan that will counter and expose the corrupt and unjust fiscal endeavors enacted by Republicans. Having a bill introduced to Congress well before this fall's elections will very well influence who individuals vote for based on a candidate's view on this bill. The following is a draft of my proposal. Please share with Democrats in Congress and others.

True Tax Reform 2026: The Sequel:

Increase the current number of tax brackets to create more progressive tax rates on the top 5%, 1%, 0.1%, and 0.01% of income earners.

Create progressive tax rates that will benefit the vast majority of Americans. Compare this with the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and H.R. 1 2025.

Richistan: A Journey Through American Wealth and Lives of the New Rich—Robert Frank: Consider income brackets for Lower Richistan, Middle Richistan, Upper Richistan, including Affluentville and Ultra-Wealthyville—added by Chuck Collins.

Make the federal tax system simpler and more rational.

Enact policies that address excessive CEO compensation. Corporations will be taxed at progressively higher rates based on the income gap between CEO compensation and median worker income.

Enact policies as necessary concerning upside-down subsidies to make them progressive.

Taxpayers subsidize private jet use. Current rates need to be raised substantially by targeting private jet use.

Provide financial relief to individuals adversely affected by higher prices caused by tariffs and caused by the war in Iran. This form of progressive payments could be distributed twice a year for those who qualify. Payments would be distributed similar to how COVID stimulus checks were processed.

Maintain President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act incentives for production in using green energy.

Target measures to protect programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and the Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program (SNAP), to name a few.

Consider expanding and increasing funding for programs such as SNAP and child care that target low-income families.

Republicans are threatening to discontinue some programs that provide much-needed assistance to individuals going to college.

Since 1954, scholarships that provide financial assistance to college students have generally been excluded from taxable income. Ensure this policy continues and protect a host of additional policies that make attending college more affordable.

Increase the corporate tax rate and tax corporations on all profits made in the United States.

Annually raise additional revenue to pay off the entire deficit created by Republican tax reforms of 2017 and 2025 by targeting the ultra-wealthy.

Annually raise additional revenue by targeting the ultra-wealthy to pay off the costs of the war in Iran.

Review and adjust Research and Development (R&D) tax credits.

Enact legislation to make the IRS Direct File permanent and available nationwide.

Decide what actions need to be taken to revise SALT.

Impose financial transaction fees to raise revenue.

Discuss the 20% small business deduction- TCJA 2017 section 199A and consider options.

Increase and make the Child Tax Credit permanent.

Plutocracy Prevention Program:

Design a comprehensive manner to address this issue.

Pursue rules and policies to raise the floor, level the playing field, and break upoverconcentration of wealth.

Pursue efforts that address inequality in wealth and income, including policies to address these inequalities based on race and gender.

Social Security: Create a higher threshold to target those with higher incomes.

Have Social Security benefits be exempt from federal taxes—specifically for low-income and middle-income families.

Pursue and expand a comprehensive approach similar to the "American Housing and Economic Mobility Act" that will provide financial support for homeownership for low-income and middle-class individuals and families.

Pursue efforts to address concerns regarding the size and distribution of intergenerational transfers.

Close the Grantor Retained Annuity Trust (GRAT) loophole.

Brookings: How Should We Tax the Great Wealth Transfer? (12/12/2024):

Authors report, "The size and distribution of intergenerational transfers have raisedconcerns about creating family dynasties, exacerbating trends in inequality, andlimiting economic opportunity and mobility. Authors conclude, "reforms tothe wealth transfer system, including taxing unrealized capital gains at death converting the estate tax to an inheritance tax, can raise revenue, increaseprogressivity and improve the economy in other ways as well. "

Institute for Policy Studies: Revenue-Raising Proposals in the Ever-Evolving BuildBack Better Debate (1/25/2022):

General proposals to raise taxes on high-income individuals. It was mentioned that a bill was approved by the House Ways and Means Committee that included aprovision to mostly reverse the 2017 tax law's cut in the top personal income tax ratefor "ordinary" income (income that is not capital gains or stock dividends subject tospecial tax rates). Democratic lawmakers left the provision out because SenatorKyrsten Sinema reportedly did not support it.

Pursue proposals that aim to limit tax breaks on wealth and income derived from wealth. This includes taxing capital gains as income.

Limit tax breaks for wealthy business owners.

Abolish unjustified tax breaks for the owners of pass-through businesses.

Abolish the special 20% deduction "qualified business income" for large businesses.

Make permanent the limit of pass-through business losses.

Increase taxes on corporations.

Proposals would be designed to ensure that corporate profits do not escape taxation.

Establish a corporate minimum tax rate that requires the biggest corporations to pay progressive federal income taxes on the profits reported to shareholders and create an excise tax on stock buybacks.

Include proposals to limit tax breaks for corporate profit-shifting and offshoring. This includes a reduction in the exemption for offshore profits for so-called "Qualified Business Asset Investments” and increasing the minimum effective tax rate on offshorecorporate profits on a per-country basis.

Proposals to limit tax breaks for wealth and income from wealth:

Repeal several breaks in the estate tax and lower the financial threshold to pay estate taxes.

Replicate successful state programs such as the Massachusetts Fair ShareAmendment and Washington state's Working Family Tax Credit (WFTC) in 2023.

Consolidate These Proposals:

I'd appreciate someone explaining to me why the Iranian war options need to even be discussed.

There are two possible outcomes:

Door 1. The Iranian Regime falls. It is replaced by an Iranian muslim regime that could be identical to the present regime except that it eschews nuclear weapons, proxy wars, and using the Straits of Hormuz, an international waterway, as a geopolitical weapon.

That will benefit the EU, the US, Asia, and the Iranian people, among others.

Door 2. The Iranian regime survives:

a. That will lead to it becoming a nuclear state.

b. That will lead it to pursue both proxy and direct wars.

c. That will lead to a nuclear war with Israel that will also, because of initial burst effects, kill millions in Europe, West Asia, North Africa, and the Gulf

d. t will lead to Russia and Iran imposing economic rents on Europe that will destroy its economy and standard of living, and will also further Islamize Europe.

e. It will create a crisis in the US that will likely destabilize it, since over half the country has experience and memories of Middle East wars and Islamic culture, and supports the individualistic Enlightenment historical American culture. The conservatives won't submit to Woke collectivism or third-world cultural control.

f. It will destroy the liberal tradition in the West since supporting Hamas, October 6, and genocide of the Jews is morally and intellectually inconsistent with the Western Enlightenment liberal tradition and the claims of the social justice warriors.

Even if you hate Trump and Israel with a passion, I can't imagine anyone choosing Door 2.

Yet the EU, the UN, the Catholic Church, the US Democratic Party, the major research universities, and the national scale media strongly support going through Door 2 and preserving the most disruptive and dangerous regime on the planet.

Can Iran's supporters make a rational case that Trump will be worse for the world than Iran?

My oils stocks, which I bought in December, are doing great. More than making up for my increased fuel bill. I’m not happy about it. But at least it’s something.

My bet is that the coming demand destruction from higher prices and recession will just about equal the shortages by summertime.
